Product Description

EPIMEDIUM x rubrum – Red Barrenwort/Bishop’s Hat

Abundant bright pink to crimson flowers with white spurs hang daintily above the red tinted heart-shaped leaves of this semi-evergreen perennial. Foliage turns bronze-purple in autumn. Excellent shade tolerant ground cover. Prefers rich organic soil in partial shade. Epimediums are aristocratic groundcovers rarely growing more than a foot tall. They are the perfect solution for use under leggy shrubs or under trees with competing roots tolerating dry shade. Leaves are attached to wiry stems and can be evergreen, semi-evergreen or deciduous depending on the species. Evergreen/semi-evergreen are likely native to Mediterranean areas while the deciduous are native to China.
