The result of a cross of Calycanthus floridus x Sinocalycanthus sinensis, the plant has large glossy dark green foliage and a more open habit than our native. The summer, April to May, flowers are 2-3 in. across and wide open like a Star Magnolia but with a clear merlot coloration. This beautiful shrub is best used as a border, specimen around the house or just in woodland or native gardens.
