BETULA papyrifera ‘Select’

The beauty of this white birch is dramatic against the green of other trees. For years we have carried this plant in our catalog as B. maximowicziana hybrid. With botanical help we have come to realize that what we have is actually a superior strain of native Paper Birch. The trees show great vigor developing snowy white bark at about 2 1/2 in. caliper with large green leaves that turn golden yellow in the fall. The trees also show high resistance to Bronze Birch Borer when sited properly. Prefers moist but well drained acid soils and a site where the root system remains shaded and cool.
